Dear Cardinal George,
I am writing to you today about a serious issue. You may one day become the next Pope, and along with this responsibility comes the power to change the world.
I hope that you will encourage the Vatican to eliminate the celibacy vows that for so long have caused much harm to women and children.
As you know from the recent press about the Priests in Africa who have been raping Nuns, and forcing them to have abortions, celibacy does not work.
God created all humans with a libido to encourage the continuation of the human race. Telling a Priest to ignore his sex drive is like telling a hungry person that he does not need food.
The occasional molestations by Catholic clergy are no mystery, it is because they are leading lives of internal conflict. God never intended for his ministers to be required to be celibate. The Catholic Church must allow its clergy to marry and have families, or the current situation will get worse.
The current shortage of Priests is not unexpected. There are thousands of young men who would make great leaders in their religious communities, but they are lost forever because they will not give up the possibility of having a family.
Some people can live complete lives without marriage or sex, but it should be their choice not the choice of the Church.
Do you have the courage to influence the Pope and Vatican to stop the pain afflicted by this dangerous rule?
The world is watching you, and you can make the world a better place by challenging the celibacy rule.
I would be honored if you would be so kind as to allow me to meet with you to discuss your future with the church, and your thoughts on what I have written about.
Sincerely
Gary Cohn, President
